Boyce Commends Key Principles of President Obama's Multibillion Dollar Stimulus and Jobs Proposal

Columbus – Ohio Treasurer Kevin L. Boyce said today he applauds the key principles of President Obama’s multibillion dollar stimulus and jobs proposal. The plan calls for a package of new spending for highway, bridge and other infrastructure projects, deeper tax breaks for small businesses and tax incentives to encourage people to make their homes more energy efficient.

Treasurer Boyce pointed out that the Ohio treasury has also been focused on helping small businesses create and retain jobs as well as partnering with community banks to encourage people to make their homes more energy efficient.

“Like the president, my priority is to stabilize Ohio’s economy and create jobs. We work hard every day to provide opportunities for Ohioans to succeed.” Treasurer Boyce said. “It’s one of the reasons my office continues to invest in our GrowNOW program for small businesses – so many of our small businesses are struggling in this tough economy, and it’s critical for Ohio that we help them survive and thrive.”

GrowNOW is the treasury’s program for small business in partnership with community banks. It cuts down on interest rates for small businesses looking to create or retain jobs.  Since August 2007, the Treasurer’s office has helped grow or save more than 18,000 jobs.

“As our economy increasingly takes on green, environmentally-friendly hue, we need to look at ways for Ohio to be on the forefront. That’s why we launched ECO-Link.” said Boyce. ”The program provides reduced rate financing for homeowners, who undertake energy efficiency improvements.  It’s a way to help stimulate green economic growth, but also keep more money in the pockets of Ohioans.”

The mission of the Ohio Treasury is to protect and invest state funds while providing innovative financial education and resources, empowering the people of Ohio to make Smart Money Choices.
